Visit this unique island with a guided walking tour of the castle and gardens with these two tickets – a not to be missed opportunity.
Ever wonder about that castle in the Hudson River that you can see from the Metro-North train window at Cold Spring? Abandoned, neglected and decaying, at first sight you may think that Bannerman’s Castle is located in Europe, perhaps a Scottish remnant from the days of the lairds or a site in Ireland forsaken by retreating British aristocrats. A former home and military equipment arsenal built on Pollopel Island by Francis Bannerman VI, the Castle is 50 miles north of New York City and a thousand feet from the Hudson River’s eastern shore. In recent years, the Bannerman Castle Trust was founded to preserve the island and remaining structures.
Environmental History of the Hudson River: Human Uses that Changed the Ecology, Ecology that Changed Human Uses completes this package.
