This painting, like so many of Sarrantonio’s paintings, serves as a meditation on nature and self, bridging the realms of external perception and internal reflection and utilizing memory, experience, and imagination to negotiate the terrain of contemporary painting.
Thomas Sarrantonio studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where his teachers included Wil Barnet and Sidney Goodman. His paintings have been exhibited widely and he is the recipient of numerous honors, including a Pollock-Krasner Award and a Visiting Artist Residency in Normandy, France.
