Item Description
Autographed Copy of "Call Me Jim" by Mary Fitzgerald, illustrated by Dorothy Kerns.
'Call Me Jim' is the sequel to 'Lucy and Her Manifest Destiny', the story of the Applegate family and the first wagon train to Oregon in 1843. James (Jim) is the younger brother of 13 year old Lucy, the oldest child of Charles and Melinda Applegate.
When disaster strikes the members of the Applegate families on their westward journey from Missouri to the Oregon country in 1843, James Applegate feels deeply the loss of his two closest cousins. James prefers the nickname Jim, which his cousins used, but his father insists that young folks must earn the right to be called by the name they desire. In this story of a young man helping his family settle in the western frontier, James finds times for youthful escapades along with the hard work of homesteading. This book is the second half of the story of the Applegate children; the first part of their adventure in the new territory is told in the book Lucy and Her Manifest Destiny.
