Item Description
Classic black Omega Homburg hat, made Dobbs Fifth Avenue, New York. Size 7 1/8.
A homburg is a formal felt hat characterized by a single dent running down the center of the crown (called a "gutter crown"), a stiff brim shaped in a "kettle curl" and a bound edge trim. Like other formal Western male headgear, the homburg is not as common as it once was. Al Pacino gained some renewed fame for the homburg by wearing one in the film The Godfather, for which reason the hat is sometimes called a "Godfather".
This Godfather/Homburg was purchased new by C. Mark Smith and worn to the opening night Gala Concert Gala Concert of the Seattle World's Fair on April 21, 1962. The concert was held at the brand new Seattle Opera House (225 Mercer Street) and presented the Seattle Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Igor Stravinsky and guest soloist, pianist Van Cliburn.
Comes with classic Dobbs hat box for perfect storage. Hat boxes are a collectible themselves!
Current value (new) $145.00 Current value (Ebay) $150.00. But the history of the hat makes it priceless!
