Item Description
Join Susan Barocas for a living-room conversation about food and memory. You're remembering it already - the smell of challah baking or your mother’s brisket in the oven…that first taste of haroset at the Passover seder or your Bubbie’s chicken soup any time.
Chef, teacher and writer Susan Barocas will lead ten people on a journey through their memories of food and the role it plays in our lives. Susan will share some of her own food memories growing up with both Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions.
Reminiscent of Proust's madeleines, Susan will offer up a special treat - special almond macaroons based on a medieval Sephardic recipe.
Susan was the founding director of the Jewish Food Experience, the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s innovative project, and served as guest chef at the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Obama White House Seders. Her stories and recipes have appeared in the Washington Post, Lilith, Moment, Washington Jewish Week and Tablet among other places. She is a member of the culinary organization Les Dames d’Escoffier and co-chair of the 2018 Hazon Food Conference.
The evening will be hosted by Susan Schatten and Jonathan Epstein, at their home in Bethesda. 7:00-8:30 on a spring date TBD.
