Item Description
Uptown Stories inspires kids to discover and develop their inner voices in a diverse community of writers. Based in upper Manhattan, we offer small-group writing workshops for children ages eight to fifteen, led by master teachers and professional authors. To ensure our workshops are accessible to all children, tuition is pay-what-you-can. We offer after-school, small-group writing workshops for children ages 8-15.
Our students learn the art and craft of writing, how to revise their work, and how to give constructive feedback to their peers. We hire rockstar teachers, writers and artists who ensure our workshops are inspiring, challenging, and fun. At the end of each semester, we hold a celebratory reading for each workshop at the Word Up Community Bookstore in Washington Heights. In addition, each student receives a paperback anthology that includes all of the students' work from that semester.
Uptown Stories creates an exciting, challenging, and supportive community in which young authors thrive. Summer workshops at Uptown Stories will begin on Monday July 9th, 2018. We will be offering a variety of week-long workshops that will meet from Monday-Friday from 10AM-2PM. For a listing of all of our confirmed workshops as well as full course descriptions, families should go to our workshop page: www.uptownstories.org/writing-workshops/ or call (929) 27-STORY. Current confirmed workshops include: Creating Otherworlds - July 9-July 13 POW! Writing and Drawing Comics - July 16-July 20 The Nature of Poetry- July 23-July 27 Girls Rising- August 20-August 24
