Item Description

One lucky winner will receive this amazing collector's item- a score from the groundbreaking, Pulitzer Prize-winning Blood on the Fields, SIGNED by Wynton Marsalis!

The Pulitzer Prize was established by provisions in the will of Joseph Pulizter in 1917 to recognize outstanding work in categories relating to newspapaer jurnalism, arts, letters and fiction. The music category was added in 1943. For the ensuing 54 years, the prize was awarded exclusively to classical musicians, and many of America's brilliant jazz composers were overlooked, primarily for racial reasons. In 1997, Wynton Marsalis' composition, Blood on the Fields,  was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Music. This marked the first Pulitzer Prize ever awarded to a jazz musician. Upon this momentous occasion, the Pulitzer Prize Board joined the march towards racial equality in the United States of America.

Following Marsalis' 1997 Award, the Pulitzer Prize Board has posthumously awarded Special Citations to several of America's foremost jazz composers including Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk.
