Item Description
One-week stay in the Lechay House in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, and a copy of the book, Cape Cod Modern, in which the home is featured.
Designed by architect Hayden Walling for painter James Lechay in 1959, this mid-century modern home remains one of the best examples of modest Bauhaus architecture in the area.
The two-bedroom house has a large deck and open floor plan with a large living/fireplace area, walk-through kitchen, and dining nook. The west wall of the house is glass, and the house and deck overlook undeveloped woodland to a distant view of marsh and bay below.
The studio has a separate deck and is maintained as a working artist studio. It has a north-facing window wall, open work space and desk areas, plus futon and daybed.
The cul-de-sac road ensures minimal traffic, and the orientation of the house provides significant privacy. The western-facing deck means sun-filled afternoon light and sunsets over the bay. The home was recently restored, with attention to original fixtures, materials, etc. and there is no dishwasher or television. (There is basic wifi.) Sleeps 7. Very, very quiet in fall/winter with good central heat and a fireplace.
