Excerpt from the introduction: "Madge Tennent was born in Dulwich, England, in 1889, to Arthur and Grace Cook. Arthur was an architect with a flair for painting seascapes and for wood carving; Grace was a gifted writer. The Cooks nurtured and encouraged Madge's natural skill for drawing and, when she was thirteen years old, they sent her to study art at the academie Julian in Paris."
