Item Description
This Quan Yin from SpritStuff is cast from an original wood carving, produced especially for SpiritStuff and for reproduction, in Bali.
Quan Yin, spelled with many variations, is the Female Buddha, the Bodhisattva, the enlightened one who waits for the rest of humanity.
Kuan Yin, Kwan Yin, Guan Yin, all refer to the same being, and she is known as the Goddess of Compassion. It is said she sprang full grown from a lotus, and here she sits serenely in its center. Viewers will notice the tiny Buddha in the center of her Headdress, and her various jewelry and embellishments, as well as her hand pose and even the folds in her clothing are all symbolic.
Throughout Asia she has many faces as each culture has it's own vision of beauty. This is cast from an original wood carving, produced especially for SpiritStuff and for reproduction, in Bali, with the carver's consent. Ms. Williams has taken special care with the facial features, bringing her own carver's touch to their refinement.
Carol of SpiritStuff enjoys making moulds and casting reproductions. The castings are made from a gypsum cement called Hydrostone. Carol uses this material for several reasons, but for her an important one is that it is not harmful to users or the environment. It acts like lime in the soil, so she can feel fine about disposing of the leavings in her garden. She's been a mould-maker for more than 30 years and Buddhas and Quan Yins are a favorite.
