Item Description
Inula helenium, Symphytum uplandicum, Achillea millefolium, Sambucus canadensis, Monarda didyma, and fistulosa: the language of summer and just some of the plants that influence Ruthie Hayes, the creator of the Mother Hylde's Herbal Midsummer Gathering Box.
The Gathering Box collection includes:
- Elderflower Honeysuckle Elixir- 2oz- There are not many things more seductive and intoxicating than drinking in all the heady fragrances of early summer flowers. Elderflower and honeysuckle are two of my favorites because they embody summer's wild, verdant energy so well. This sweet elixir can be used medicinally or added to your daily cuppa, fizzy water, or mixed in cocktails.
- Solstice Blossom- A Midsummer Night Cream - 2oz- I am so excited to bring this silky cream back!! We are approaching summer solstice, and this cream is inspired by all the flowers that turn warm summer breezes into intoxicating olfactory feasts. These are the long, bright days we pine for in the depths of winter, so indulge in all the season has to offer! Solstice Blossom is warm, floral, and heady with rose, honeysuckle, elderflower, jasmine, and ylang ylang.
- The Reverie of Frau Holle Ritual Bath- 16oz- This dreamy soak was inspired by the Celtic and Danish herblore that surrounds the Elder. Many traditions recognize the wise crone-like dryad that lives within, and she goes by many names (Frau Holle, Hylde Mor, Hulda, Hyldemoer, just to name a few). It is believed that anyone sitting underneath the elder on Midsummer Eve will be shown the King of Fairies. The Little Elder Tree Mother is a Danish fairytale written by Hans Christian Andersen about a boy whose mother gives him elderflower tea. The Elder Mother grows out of the teapot and he is whisked away to warm and beautiful places on her green and leafy bosom. Now, if you could just somehow drag a bathtub out and soak in this *under* the elder on Midsummer Eve.
- Elderflower Rhubrab Shrub- 8oz- a shrub is a "drinking vinegar" usually infused with herbs and/or fruit. Just a tablespoon or two in a glass of fizzy water (or added to summer cocktails) creates a sweet, tangy, refreshing drink.
- Ruis Oghamfew- (pronounced "roo-eesh"), meaning "red"- the color of the squashed berries. (Made with ethically harvested hawthorn wood.) The Elder is a threshold tree. She thrives in hedges, next to woodland streams, in pastures, fens, and fencerows. She often occupies those wild and mysterious liminal spaces where transition takes place. She’s associated with making contact with the fairy folk, dreaming time, and the under/otherworld. She is an intermediary between worlds. Sit under her branches on Midsummer's Eve and you'll see the Fairy King.
Mother Hylde's Herbal's Ruthie Hayes is mother, wife, massage therapist, gardener, herbalist, potter, seamstress. She spends most of her free time crafting plant remedies and in her greenhouse. She makes small batch, handcrafted plant medicines using plants she's grown, wildcrafted, and sourced locally as much as possible. She received her Advanced Clinical Herbalist certificate from Thomas Easley's Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine. Before that, she studied Homestead Herbalism with Susan Hess.
