Item Description
In the 1830s vaquero taught Hawaiians how to ride horses and work cattle. Paniolo developed their own style of saddles. Minimal amounts of leather and rawhide kept the saddle light. The saddle tree was careully shaped for both horse and rider to be comfortable all day. Four braided strands of rawhide that attach the rigging are called aweawe, which means "tentacles." If there are five braided strands, they are called wilimokou. Well cared for Hawaiian Tree Saddles can last decades and even centuries with periodic repair. Each card design is inspired by a real life Hawaiian Tree Saddle on Hawaii Isalnd, with original artwork by Cherie Okada-Carlson.
When you send one of these cards to family and friends across the sea, you're sharing an authentic piece of paniolo history. Each set of stationary includes 8 unique cards.
