Artist Statement
"In A Daze Work"is an ongoing series of paintings in which I produce one 40 x 60 poster within an eight hour period once a month in and or around the NYC subway system. The posters are left in the subway or giving away for free and then reproduced in my studio on archival illustration board. This series is inspired by the Affichomanie (Poster mania) movement that swept France and Europe at the turn of the century. At the onset of the 1900's the first real posters were starting to be produced and mass printed, designed by master draftsmen like Jules Chére, Toulouse-Lautrec and Alphonse Mucha who produced images so vibrant and evocative that art critics advised the public to forgo the museum for the real art show happening on the billboards around the city. I want to reclaim the lost glory and artistry of the poster from the drab formulaic dead things that we are forced to look at every day of our commute.
