Item Description
Thanks to our many generous donors, The Dorsky’s Education and Outreach Programs are growing and, most importantly, are reaching new audiences all the time. Our work with area public schools continues to expand within the Kingston School District and with new schools throughout the region, including the Newburgh Free Academy. We are very proud to have professional artists leading children and their families in our Family Day activities. It is also rewarding to see how many New Paltz professors from varied fields are seeking to collaborate with the museum as part of their coursework. Going forward, we plan to continue to invite artists, curators, and scholars to speak to our audiences and to organize performances, concerts, and film series that enrich the experience of The Dorsky’s exhibitions. We will also continue our collaborations with various community groups.
We have two ambitious new initiatives planned for 2019:
First, we will develop and launch a summer program for teenagers in partnership with the Poughkeepsie-based non-profit Art Effect.
Our second and most ambitious new initiative, which has the potential to extend The Dorsky’s reach the farthest, is a collaboration with NYSATA (the New York State Art Teachers Association) to develop a curriculum for students using objects from The Dorsky’s collection. Because both the curriculum and The Dorsky’s collection can be accessed online, this initiative could be be implemented across New York State as well as nationwide.
Virtually all of our exhibitions, all of our programming, all of our educational and community outreach, are critically dependent on private contributions.â¯
Please bid high to help us educate and inspire students both on and off campus!
