This incense set consists of one package of Scented Mountain's highest quality agarwood chips (raw agarwood directly from the tree) from Vietnam, one package of highest quality agarwood chips from Thailand, and one package of fine charcoal.

The Vietnam chips are thin wood chips of dark resinous wood. For use on charcoal or can be lighted with a flame from a candle or match. Agarwood chips produce the best fragrance with little smoke.

The Thailand chip set consists of cultivated agarwood chips for use on charcoal or lighted with a flame from a candle or match. This agarwood has a robust beautiful fragrance that is distinctive for the region and resembles the very fine aroma of agarwood from natural old growth forests that use to grow here many years ago.

There are 48 small charcoal briquettes in the charcoal set. This is high quality bamboo charcoal (1 X ½ X 3/8 inches) made by Shoyeido and is fragrance free and has no additives. This charcoal fits perfectly in the metal charcoal holder of the portable incense burner or it can be used on white ash in a cup or bowl-shaped incense burner to heat agarwood chips or powder.

Agarwood is a resin produced inside a tropical rainforest tree called Aquilaria. The dark resinous wood has a magnificent aroma when burned. It is considered the finest natural incense and has been used for cultural, religious and medicinal purposes for millennia. Agarwood was traded from Asia to the Middle East in ancient times and its long history of use is cited in the bible and other early religious texts. This rare and exquisite resinous wood, coveted by Kings and royalty, is now available for everyone to enjoy.

Based on research from scientific investigations carried out over more than a decade by the Agarwood Research Project at the University of Minnesota in cooperation with the Rainforest Project Foundation, methods to cultivate agarwood have been developed and it can now be produced in a sustainable way in plantation grown trees. These trees are farmed in the mountains of southern Vietnam and products from them will provide a new economy for poor rural people.
