Item Description

Wake up each morning to the serenity and magic of the Nova Scotia forest.

Windhorse Habitats in Nova Scotia offers a forest setting tended by an unbroken lineage of stewards going back to the land's original inhabitants for this one- or two-person two-night retreat.

As a guest, the successful bidder is welcome to enjoy all the richness of Windhorse at their leisure. While on the land, take a canoe for a paddle on the lake - or maybe a swim or a skate depending on the season. Book a guided night walk in the forest. Enjoy the wood-fired sauna and, when hot enough, dive into the pond just outside. Take a garden or forest tour, guided or self-guided.

Accommodation will be provided in either Will's Cabin (Photos 3 and 4 above) or Blue Dragon (Photos 5 and 6), the former the most secluded, set atop a hill deep inside the forest with room to sleep three people in one single and one double bed in a loft accessed by ladder. The latter, Blue Dragon, is a bright, spacious feeling, one-room, one-level cabin with double bed and solar-powered lights, plus amazing views. It is tucked into the edge of the garden next to the brook, beaver pond, and lake. The cabins are off-grid and the walk varies from 75 to 100 meters. Each has its own unique characteristics and spirit.

Each cabin is equipped with a propane cooktop, propane or solar-powered lights, a wood stove, a cooler (ice packs are available to keep perishable food fresh), clean bed linens and towels, and kitchenware. Water is provided in jugs (no running water) and clean composting toilets are located near each cabin. Access to a hot shower and running water is available in the “Chat Room” adjacent to the farmhouse. Guests of the cabins also have access to all the “Elements of Windhorse.” Firewood for heating is included.

Windhorse Farm, a magical place on Wentzell Lake in Nova Scotia, has been home to many humans and non-humans for more than ten thousand years. The Mi'kMaq and their ancestors cared for the forest here, and were cared for by the forest, for 400 generations. Since the time of the European invasion, and after the first Europeans settled in this place now called Windhorse Farm, there have been six generations of earth stewards - a mere blink of an eye in the big picture of this watershed. From 1840-1990, this was the Wentzell family farm. Then in 1990, the Drescher family took on the stewardship of the forest and gardens, growing with their children here and opening their doors to hundreds of other young people who wanted to learn about caring for the land.
