Item Description
Enjoy the expert and exquisite detail contained in this White Tara fine art print from KaylaKoimitoSacredArt. Tara is the female Buddha who grants longevity and removes obstacles to meditation practice.
This rendering of White Tara has Amitabha in the upper left and Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) in the upper right. A four-armed Mahakala is in the lower left. Achi Chokyi Drolma, who is the chief protectress of the Drigung Kagyu lineage, is in the lower right. Painter Kayla Komito's work is inspired by a 19th Century thangka. The original was commissioned for a temple in New Mexico. The arrangement of bodhisattvas and protectors was chosen by the teacher at that temple.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Kayla painted and showed her personal work in galleries in the San Francisco area.
In the late 1990s Kayla began painting Tibetan thangkas on commission. All the images in her thangkas were created using traditional iconic grid lines, colors and forms. It is also traditional with Tibetan thangkas that the background images express a patron's or artist's unique interests and vision, Kayla has followed that tradition with her paintings.
Kayla was authorized to paint thangkas by her lamas: Tara Tulku Rinpoche (retired abbot of Gyuto Monastery) and Kyabje Denma Locho Rinpoche (retired abbot of Namgyal Monastery). Because thangkas are used as meditation tools in Tibetan Buddhism, she engaged in the appropriate preparatory meditation practices before each painting session.
