Item Description

ARTIST: Marcio Decker

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Conception is established from motion, vibrant energy and research of techniques and materials. Taking abstract expressionism from its traditional genesis, with ingenuity, entrapping time, experiences and emotions in the frame to manifest a new world, is how Decker describes his drive to produce. An image never seen before, the waves of light running across the paint, the bent forms and textures and the expressions of the viewers experiencing the results are the fulfillment and his inspiration to evolve.

Size 24' x 80"

Materials: Acrylic paint, polypropylene gem stones, glue and plastic wrap

Marcio Decker is a Brazilian American artist who has shown his works in museums at Balboa Park in San Diego and Vienna. The artist has participated in many art fairs as Scope, Spectrum and group exhibitions in London, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Florence, New York, Miami to mention a few. Proud of his inventive process and techniques, using simple materials to generate optic and kinetic effects to his pieces, Decker continues to research and experiment constantly. Decker received his Master in Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, in 2016.

After receiving a scholarship from UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme at the Universidad de Los Andes, Bogota, he returned to his native Brazil to receive a BFA from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, UFSM – RS.

The early 2000’s were a time for experimentation and saw a flourish of Decker’s signature geometric abstracts as he worked and exhibited his production in alternative spaces and galleries in the United States. While developing a successful Interior Design business in Lake Tahoe, CA, Decker’s work began to appear in several local private collections.

In 2010 his works moved to larger metropolitan areas when he participated in Stoked on Spring at Milk Gallery in New York City, NY and showed his collections at Art Fusion Galleries in Miami, FL during Basel Art Week 2011. His paintings are part of private and corporate collections owned by as Palliative Care Associates LLC, Aspen Leaf Interiors LLC and Opperman/Papa, to mention a few.

Decker’s latest pieces were exhibited at the Museum of the Living Artists at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA curated by Daniel Foster in 2013 and The Museum of Russian Art, Visual Variety show at 25CPW Gallery in New York City, NY curated by Margo Grant. He is finishing his MFA at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. His inspiration comes from intense colors, textures and overlapping compositions that represent the endless source of creation possible with motion and energy.
