Item Special Note
Nell Johnson is a graduate of The Studio School, which encouraged her artistic abilities and passion from an early age. During high school, Nell received a NY Regional YoungArts award and a NYC Scholastic Arts award. She later studied at Central Saint Martins, London, and earned her BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Nell paints, illustrates, sculpts, embroiders, modifies furniture and designs clothing, jewelry and decorative objects, creating unique works in just about every medium. What was once a passionate, leisure pursuit transformed into a business due to demand for Nell’s one-of-a-kind pieces after her “banana” earrings were regularly worn by a finalist featured on TV’s “The Glee Project.” The What the Nell line of whimsical, colorful jewelry and decorative works was soon launched, and later followed by Marble Road by Nell, her collection of elegant and bold jewelry. The statement necklace is from Nell’s Marble Road collection and it has a sentimental backstory. The Herkimer Diamond, which is actually a water-clear double-pointed quartz with natural faceting, was handpicked in upstate New York. These stones are found in only two places in the world, most prominently Herkimer County, NY, the home of Nell's grandparents. They introduced her to these local gems during summer holidays, and she now visits the "diamond mines" to select each conflict-free stone used in her pieces.
