Photography as a profession came somewhat late for me. It began in earnest when I was in my early to mid-30s. I grew up in the west Texas desert, but also lived for a short spell in an igloo. There was a period when I wore suits & ties, and held business meetings with Japanese executives and my very own interpreter. Then there was the time spent sailing a boat across the South Pacific to Australia, and thought lost for good. Having lived a varied existence and come close to death by way of drowning, snake, fire, shark, blood poisoning, an ill-fated border crossing and crashes of all sorts, it occurred to me that I should start carrying a camera...at least I'd have proof.

I'd just turned 33, living in Austin, fumbling through corporate relations with the Japanese, when a stunt-man friend from Los Angeles convinced me that I should move to California and learn how to surf. "How would I feed myself?" I asked in all seriousness. "Well it's real pretty out here", he said half-jokingly. "Maybe you could take some more of your pictures." Done. I sold my house, parted ways with my interpreter and hit the road. I've been shooting and surfing ever since, and weirdly, still learning to do both. While it's paradoxically the smartest and dumbest thing I ever did, I wouldn't change a minute of it. Nice to meet you.

Gift certificates will be sent via USPS or e-mailed if applicable. If you win an item and would like it mailed via certified insured mail, please email auction@friendsofwalgrove.com by March 15th, 2019 and we will do so at your expense.

Larger items can be picked up in Los Angeles, CA or shipped at the winning bidder's expense via USPS Priority Mail. $6 for large envelopes, $13 for medium boxes, $18 for large boxes. We will try to use the smallest package size we can. We will insure packages when shipping; however, Friends of Walgrove is not responsible for items lost in the mail.

Walgrove Community: Pick up option is available. Pick up dates: Open House March 14 and Friday Morning March 15 Parent Center at Walgrove Elementary. Additional pick up dates and times TBA.
