About the Artist and the Photograph:
"I have looked at far more photographs than I have paintings because their reality is stronger than reality itself." This quote by Sir Francis Bacon is at the heart of what I do. My goal with my images is to not be static, but to have a dynamic interaction where I connect with my viewers through photographic storytelling. Framing is an essential component—what is left in and out—respecting realism but blending it with poetic truth. This photograph is simply called Iceland because for me it sums up my experience of the island. I think it symbolizes brutality, beauty, and resilience. These qualities occupy and share the same landscape in an authentic way. I like to engagesthe viewer—to interact and bring another dimension to the work. The story is there always, but the viewer is necessary to complete the narrative. –Chelsie GawneMark, Visual storyteller
