The “crown jewel” of Bristol, Rhode Island’s historic waterfront district, Linden Place was built in 1810 by the seafaring General George DeWolf and designed by architect, Russell Warren. This extraordinary 1.8 acre estate consists of the mansion, beautiful sculpture-filled gardens, an 1825 carriage barn, a 1902 ballroom, and a gazebo and other outbuildings from the 18th century.
Docent-led tours highlight the tales of the DeWolf family from its privateering and slave trading days to its financial ruin and eventual return to prosperity during the Victorian era. Linden Place was featured in a 2008 documentary about the DeWolf family and also used as a filming location for the 1974 movie The Great Gatsby.
The mansion and grounds are open to the public from May through October, during the holiday season, and also by appointment.
