Item Description

Another of our popular Family Adventures . . . enjoy an outing in Washington County -- a visit in close proximity -- with streetcars and trolleys, a trip to Meadowcroft to see the oldest archaeological findings in North America, and perhaps a stop here and there to see the many covered bridges.

  • Pennsylvania Trolley Museum - admission for one family (up to 2 adults & 4 children) during public hours.  Through preservation and display, the Trolley Museum conveys to today’s public what the past was like and how important trolleys were to the day-to-day functioning of this area. Artifacts, photos and documents are some of the things that you’ll find displayed here.  Take a scenic four-mile tour with a uniformed operator on a restored antique trolley. Tours begin on the hour.   (Admissions passes are not valid during Bunny Trolley, Daniel Tiger Weekend, Pumpkin Patch Trolley and Santa Trolley.  Learn about trolleys on a guided tour of the Trolley Display Building.  View Films and Exhibits.  Visit the Museum Store.  Valid through November 22, 2020.
  • Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village - admission for four (4). Meadowcroft Rockshelter is the oldest site of human habitation in the United States, featuring a 16,000 year-old rock overhang used by our earliest ancestors for shelter. Bring family and friends to explore the natural preservation of our ancestors from thousands of years ago. It’s an unforgettable experience. (Good for any regular admission during the 2019-2020 season. Call or visit the Heinz History Center before planning a visit).

After your visit to the Trolley Museum and Meadowcroft, take a drive around Washington County to see great covered bridges and the chance to see some of the most rural parts of Pennsylvania.  This County is home to 23 historic covered bridges, more than any other county in Pennsylvania other than Lancaster County. For more information, visit the Covered Bridges of Washington County website.

For more things to see and do while in the area or on your way to this Family Adventure, see the VisitPA website.
