Item Description

Treat yourself and seven friends or family to an exclusive curated and personalized tour of 7000 acre The Country Estates of River Road National Register Historic District, which is nationally significant. Walk through nationally famous landscapes and exquisitely decorated homes with narration and history from the expert on the subject, Meme Sweets Runyon, Executive Director of River Fields. This Country Estates Tour has been led for several Kentucky and Indiana Governors and their wives and staff, national preservation leaders and two CEOs of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Now enjoy this for yourself! We will be driving in a comfortable small bus with large windows and covering much of the 700 acres of the district which is three miles long. All 21 residences are private and some are rarely seen.  Enjoy midday luncheon or end of the day dinner at the historic and lovely River Valley Club, also one of the properties in the Country Estates listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Fabulous homes, gorgeous gardens, extraordinary landscapes and dramatic river views will include, but are not limited to:

·         Boxhill/Winkworth: One of the most stunning properties in the district and the home of Dr. and Mrs. Alan Lansing. The landscape was designed by the Olmsted firm and Bryant Fleming. With magnificent entrance gates, a gorgeous fountain, and stunning views, this monumental property has been photographed for multiple national magazines. This property is preserved forever through a conservation easement with River Fields. Guests will be treated to a full tour of both the first and second floor with double porches.

· Four double layered National Register Districts! The Glenview District, The Harrods Creek District, The Nitta Yuma District and the Drumanard District. Multiple properties with landscapes designed by the Frederick Law Olmsted Firm

· Lincliffe, probably the most spectacular garden designed by Bryant Fleming. There are 6 gardens within this estate, each has been exquisitely restored and enhance.

·Melcombe, with its Carrere and Hastings classical theater with elements of Roman and Greek architecture.

·Belleview Farm, the gorgeous c. 1830-150 acre farm preserved also through a conservation easement. The stunning entrance and upstate New York style estate is rarely seen.

·The Todd House, the circa 1830 farmhouse that is the original home in Nitta Yuma.

Other properties may include: Ladless Hill (now known as Poplar Terrace); Shady Brook Farm, Cobble Court and the Chrysler House, to name a few.
