Item Description
The drum is used in Chod practice. According to this practice, the sound of the chod drum proclaims impermanence and symbolizes the cutting through of egotism. Chod practitioners use the drum to summon dakas and dakinis to the dance of ego -annihilation and to summons spirits to the great feast. The dual bowl shaped drum has glued drum heads and is usually held in the right hand. It is played by twisting the wrist to activate a striker on each side. The center or waist of the Chod drum is decorated with a band from which a handle extends down. The handle and attached tail allows the drummer to hold and balance the drum. The drum comes complete with a padded drum cover which allows the drum and tail to be stored safely.
Please note there are two cracks, but the head tightens with heat and the sound is still strong and clear.
Measures: 8 1/2 inches in diameter. Brocade tail measures 30 inches long
