Item Description
The rise of Parkour from its roots in French military training to that of a recreational pastime and now one of the world’s most sought after training methods for mind, body, and spirit has been rapid, to say the least. Through its use of the natural environment as a play space, exponents (called traceurs) have the opportunity to test themselves and their limits by running, jumping, climbing, vaulting, and rolling over obstacles in order to first adapt to, then eventually overcome the physical, mental, and emotional challenges that are created by the actual physical barriers themselves.
In this 45-minute introductory one-on-one class, the child will train with Bryce Clarke, Founder and CEO of PARKOUR NYC. “Coach Bryce” will design a kid-friendly sample program that is both challenging and super-fun for your youngster, inspiring and emphasizing a sense of play even while encountering and overcoming physical obstacles presented by the play space. He will teach the proper way to climb without the use of knees or elbows as well as how to hold basic support positions with minimal effort and stress on the body. Everything is ZERO-IMPACT and focused on developing coordination and basic quadrupedal movement – two areas essential to successful advancement in the art – is particularly emphasized. For young children in particular, Proprioception, or the body’s ability to sense itself in space, is an essential component in developing body awareness and control.
Bryce’s child-centered teaching method allows him to precisely adapt lessons to the ability and temperament of each child for maximum fun and learning in a familiar, safe and adaptable environment!
