Item Description
"Boy Reading to Elephant" Print
Gregory Colbert's famous, evocative photograph of a young Tibetan boy reading to an Asian elephant is faithfully reproduced on canvas. 27.5" x 20", not stretched
Question: Do you see a boy reading to an elephant? Or an elephant patiently waiting for him to look up so that she can share her own wisdom?
When this photo was first exhibited in 2002, Canadian photograph Gregory Colbert commented: "The idea is to bring people toward a new understanding of animal behaviour and man's role within the animal kingdom. The party tricks have been explored with animals up the wazoo. Stuff with Disney, the circus ... But the actual collaboration, if you think of an orchestra -- and we [humans] always see ourselves as the main players, but actually we're a very small part -- there's all kinds of other languages ... when you go to a watering hole in India, there's all kinds of different animals that congregate.... We used to be doing that, we didn't used to be having this kind of species apartheid, so this is what I'm interested in exploring."
