Item Description
The fiercely wrathful, Black Cloak Mahakala is black in color, with one face, three round bulbous eyes, a large gaping mouth with bared white fangs. His beard, eyebrows, and hair flow upwards like flames. The right hand holds aloft a curved flaying knife with a vajra handle. The left hand holds a white blood skullcap to the heart. Adorned with a crown of five dry white skulls, earrings, bracelets and a garland of freshly severed heads.
The Dharma Protector Mahakala is typically black in color. Just as all colors are absorbed and dissolved into black, all names and forms are said to melt into those of Mahakala, symbolizing his all-embracing, comprehensive nature. Black can also represent the total absence of color, and again in this case it signifies the nature of Mahakala as ultimate or absolute reality.
Beautifully painted, this brass statue measures approximately 5 1/2 inches tall and the base measures 3 1/2 inches x 2 inches.
