Item Description
Thangka is hand painted and set in brocade. There is some cracking of the paint due to age, but overall it is in good condition.
Thangka measures 35 inches x 32 inches and painting measures 23 inches x 14 inches.
This thangka would be an excellent addition to someone's Buddhist art collection, especially for Chod practitioners.
Three Mad Yogi Chodpas Thangka
Thangtong Gyalpo, was a 15th century yogi and Chod master also known as Chakzampa, the "Iron Bridge Maker”. He was a pioneering civil engineer said to have built 58 iron chain suspension bridges around Tibet and Bhutan, several of which are still in use today. Associated with the Shangpa Kagyu, Nyingma and Sakya traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, he is also considered to be the patron saint of theatre.
Padampa Sangye was an Indian mahasiddha who transmitted many teachings to Buddhist practitioners in Tibet in the late 11th century. On his third trip from India to Tibet he met Machig Labdrön. In Tibet he is known as the Father of Chod.
Jetsun Milarepa was an 11th century Tibetan siddha, who famously was a murderer as a young man then turned to Buddhism to become an accomplished buddha despite his past. He is generally considered as one of Tibet's most famous yogis and poets, serving as an example for the Buddhist life. He was a student of Marpa Lotsawa, and a major figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
