Item Description
A kapala (Skt.) is a ritual offering cup made out of a human skull. Many Tibetan Buddhist deities are depicted holding a Kapala filled with wisdom nectar in their left hand. They are also used on the shrine by Tantric practitioners, as symbols of impermanence.
This kapala is painted red on the inside. Only a qualified lama can read the signs of a human skull or thigh bone and appreciate its esoteric qualities. Lama Sonam Rinpoche says this one is very high quality.
Skulls, thigh bones and other human bones are difficult to find for sale in the US, due to limitations on import and other governmental regulations, adding to the value of this particular ritual kapala.
Measures approx. 7 inches long x 6 inches wide.
