Item Description
It costs $1000 per day to fund the salaries of additional instructional aides and staff members who are currently working at the Heights! The seven staff members funded by our Newport Heights Foundation continue to make an incredible impact on all TK-6th grade students every single day. Our part-time support teachers and instructional assistants help lower student-to-teacher ratio in the classrooms which provides classroom teachers the opportunity to work with smaller groups of students during specific times of the day on enrichment and intervention performance tasks. Students at every level benefit from the feeling of a smaller class size, specialized instruction in reading and writing, support in basic math skills, and more individualized attention all around. Currently, we have two Support Teachers who have teaching credentials with classroom experience - Janet Montgomery and Heather Girodani. Allie Hodges and Heather Kelly are our instructional assistants, and Robin Young, our Shark Tank teacher, is considered a Teacher on Special Assignment. (TOSA). Mrs. Vassi, our librarian is key to recommending reading and keeping our library open all day.
They assist our full time staff with curriculum teaching needs in the classroom, targeted reading interventions resulting in increased state testing scores last year and a library assistance that enables our library to stay open 100% of the day to help our students find just the right ready book!
