Item Description
Bid to win a Private Bird Watching Tour of Ballona Wetlands for up to 20 People.
A private 1.5 hour bird watching tour at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh or the Ballona Saltwater Marsh for up to 20 people.
The Freshwater Marsh is a restored wetland that was previously filled and farmed for decades. Now it is a flourishing marsh filled with native plants providing habitat for more than 250 species of migratory and resident birds. This marsh is one of Los Angeles’ birding hot spots! Birders often come from miles around to see the great biodiversity that exists here. Furthermore, it collects and naturally cleans the stormwater runoff from nearby streets and neighborhoods. The perimeter L-shaped wood-chip trail is open to the public from dawn to dusk. Parking is available along the southwest side of Jefferson Blvd. Leashed dogs are allowed on the public trail. Tours meet at the large purple sign just before Lincoln Blvd.

The Saltwater Marsh, located in the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, is currently closed to the public. Friends of Ballona Wetlands is, however, permitted to lead tours and volunteer opportunities in the Reserve, such as sunset hikes, restoration events, and creek cleanups. This special space is the last remaining coastal wetland in Los Angeles County. It has suffered many assaults over the past hundred years, but with the help of restoration, is starting to make a comeback.
