At Shinglefish, we source weathered shingles from homes that are being resided with new cedar shingles. Scouring the woodpile for the best sizes, shapes, weathering and lichen spotted pieces, we hand select pieces for their rustic charm.
The shingles are then stripped of the nails that may remain from their time nailed to the outside of the house. They are stacked in the shed until we are ready to prep and paint.
Each shingle will be lightly brushed to release any dusty dirt, being careful to not to disrupt the natural texture. We prep the shingle with white paint so the creatures and surfboards POP making sure to leave some of the natural weathering intact and uncovered.
Each creature is freehand-painted with love and intention onto the blank canvas and set to dry. They are covered with one coat of acrylic topcoat to protect the paint. If you are placing outside, please coat with more sealer!
