Item Description
This is the original labyrinth compendium as written by Hermann Kern in 1982, in German. I bought it to study the illustrations even though I couldn’t read the German. Finally, I wrote to Prestel, the publisher, and asked if I could have just the captions translated into a small booklet.
That inquiry led to raising $30,000 for the translation of the entire book into English, edited by Jeff Saward and myself, in 2000. I remember being in Chartres with a group and in every free moment of time, reading through the manuscript, proofreading. That whole effort is a much longer story. This book contains every reference to the labyrinth in all of history as found by Hermann Kern.
Item Special Note
To my dismay, both versions of the book have been taken out of print. The retail value at a discounted price was around $75. Now, however, if you find one in a used book store, it will be hundreds of dollars. Whether or not you read German, this is a great addition to anyone’s labyrinth library. Shipping included.
