Item Description
Charles Schweigert
Borobird 57
Japanese fabric over styrofoam core, wire, wood base.
12 inches tall with base
Handmade fabric bird with recycled textiles from India, pieced and handsewn around a styrofoam core. Wire feet and wooden base.
Schweigert has always been intrigued by birds, which he sees as amazing creatures offering endless possibilities for creative expression. Although his Boro Birds are not recognizable as any particular species, he thinks of them as expressing the essence of “birdness.” They are purely fanciful and mythological, and, most assuredly, not to be found in Audubon’s Birds of America! This three-dimensional work is made with weathered fabrics from India pieced together and sewn around a carved styrofoam core. The feet are fashioned from twisted copper wire and solder.
