Item Description

Title: Maori-an Twofer

Artist: Brian Murphy

Materials: Bass is 3ft x 1.5ft and made of .5in Kleer (PVC). Iridescent paints.

Artist's Description: Painted with iridescent paints that were scraped off in areas to give it texture similar to batik. The coloration is slightly different on each side so...hence the twofer. You get one fish painted two different ways.

About the Artist: Brian Murphy is a multi-disciplinary artist whose creative output includes sculpture, mixed media, and painting. A graduate of RISD, he has worked in the advertising and commercial art world for over 35 years.

Very active in Beverly, he is a Past President and longtime member of the Beverly Rotary Club, Council of Montserrat College of Art, Experimental Art Group RAA, President of St. Vincent de Paul Society, board member of Good Friday Walk and board member of Fischer and Fuel Society of Beverly. He has also donated his time and talents to many other Beverly organizations.

Combining sculpture and painting, uses wood, found objects, metals, and anything else to bring new life seen in a different way. Mixed-media sculpture begs the viewer to guess what this piece, or that, was in a previous life. Major themes have included fantastical fish and bird habitats. His painting work is more representational and captures light, shadow, and how it transforms the surface to give the subject volume.

Brian was the featured artist for Beverly’s Arts Fest in 2019. He has done many commissions in various mediums including sculpture and paintings. His art is included in private and public collections across the country.
