About the Artist:
Carl Austin Hyatt uses classical black-and-white photography to explore the intersection of the human and natural worlds in images charged with emotional and eloquent beauty. Hyatt revisits the landscapes of his world – rocks, shorelines, tides, horizons- knowing that perception is a living choice created anew in each encounter.
His photographs, such as the road-salt piles resembling ancient mountains and sacred pyramids, record a visceral response to the world and hint at the revelation of ineffable truths that transcend the literal. As he explains it, ” there are things we all know but dismiss because we doubt ourselves. This is our condition. It has taken me years to trust what I know.” Hyatt’s prints are in numerous permanent collections including The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Smithsonian Museum, the Currier Museum of Fine Arts and private collections across the United States, Europe and South America
