Item Description
1934 Packard V-12 LeBaron Speedster
Scale: 1:20
Die Cast by Danbury Mint. Previously owned model car. #15 Includes certification documentation.
The Packards set out in 1899 to build simple, rugged and reliable runabouts, superior in every way to their competition. Within two years, the Packards' sturdy products had attracted the attention of investor Henry B. Joy, who bought their company and moved it from Warren, Ohio, to Detroit.
Joy shared the Packards' passion for flawless quality, but he also had a vision for more elaborate and luxurious motor cars. The original single-cylinder engine gave way to a four, then a six, and ultimately to eight and twelve cylinder power plants, as Packard climbed to the top of the American prestige market.
The Packard reputation was built on engineering excellence, and that reputation allowed them to weather the early years of the Depression better than most luxury car builders. Packard even introduced a new V-12 flagship model toward the end of 1932. With its cylinder banks separated by an angle of 67 degrees, the Packard Twelve displaced a whopping 445 cubic inches, produced 160 bhp (brake horsepower) at 3200 rpm, and developed 322 lb-ft. of torque at a stump-pulling 1400 rpm.
