Becoming a Joyful Lawyer in Paperback by Deborah Calloway

Becoming a Joyful Lawyer - Contemplative Training in Non-Distraction, Empathy, and Emotional Wisdom

Description:

Many articles have been written and published that talk about the benefits of meditation practice for legal practitioners. This book takes the next step by providing instructions in contemplative practices and providing guidance for bringing the skills learned in those practices into your legal practice (or other helping profession) and your life beyond legal practice.

Deborah Calloway began her career in Washington, D.C. practicing Employment and International Law. In thirty years of law teaching she has presented both clinical and academic programs. Since 1996 she has engaged in study and meditation practice in the Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Her legal experience together with her meditation practice made her realize the benefits of contemplative practices for lawyers. With this knowledge, she created the materials in this book -- practices for working with mind to discover its nature and how it functions. With these materials lawyers (and other helping professionals) can learn to practice their profession skillfully, reduce stress, promote contentment, and find meaning and joy in their work. Deborah has taught these materials since 2005. Lawyers have encouraged her to make them available as widely as possible. Becoming a Joyful Lawyer is her answer to this request.
