Item Description

Do you love Felix the Cat? Created by cartoonist Joe Oriolo, the father of artist and guitar maker Don Oriolo, this instrument came about as a collaboration between Don and the Martin Guitar Company. Only a short run of these guitars were ever made.

This very good condition Little Martin "Felix" guitar combines the portability, playability, and sound of the Martin LX1. This is a wonderful travel-size instrument that can fit a student or an adult.

It come with a special embroidered gig-bag with Felix posing under the Martin logo, mirroring the art on the peg-head. Interestingly this guitar doesn't have a label or serial number, the only identifying mark being "FM03" written on the pack of the peghead in silver sharpie.

This was one of 10 such instruments that were given to GITC after being found in a closet at the Martin factory and spirited off to our programs. It has not been owned or played, but has been saved for the right fundraising opportunity.

We believe this guitar and its mate (we have two!) was either part of an initial prototype batch or was surplus production above the number of instruments set to be included in the limited edition release sometime around 2006. Martin no longer produces Felix LXs, and these guitars have gotten increasingly rare in the last few years. Specs: 23" scale length, 1-11/16" nut width, sustainable wood HPL top, neck, bank and sides.
