Giclee is the first and only fine art print to be made with an ink jet printer. Pronounced, zhee’clay, the word comes from the French, meaning to spray, which is exactly what an ink jet printer does. It was a major break through in the fine art community when giclee reproductions were introduced to the market in the late 1980s . The quality of a giclee print is far superior to all other forms of printing. It fact, when done correctly, it’s the closest an artist can get to matching their original 2-D artwork. For art lovers who wanted to collect fine art but couldn’t afford an original, giclee reproductions quickly became a popular alternative to purchase.

About Michelle Rothacker
My ideas come from my surroundings. I lived in Nashville, Tennessee for a number of years which influenced the floral and plant designs. Bright, bold colors began to appear after sailing to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Jamaica for a year, and then settling in Florida. Currently, I am fascinated with the many birds Florida is privileged to be home to during all different times of the year, and these too have made their way into my imagery.
I create my artwork using a multi-step process. I make the paper that is the background, and then add hand-painted images, cut paper, pressed flowers and leaves to complete the designs. The handmade materials are carefully coordinated in a way that brings all of the design elements into harmony.
Once this process is finished, each completed design is mounted on a background specifically chosen to complement the arrangement. I then reproduce them using a complex process that allows for faithful recreation of each color and texture. All of my work carries my signature, to add that extra touch.
I really enjoy creating these images, and I hope you enjoy them also.
