Item Description
Meet via Zoom for 40-minutes with Donna about her two books, "A Life of Joy... Childhood Memories of Henry David Thoreau" and "Henry David Thoreau: Bell Ringer for Justice". You will also win a signed copy of both books!
"A Life of Joy…Childhood Memories of Henry David Thoreau", written and illustrated by children’s author Donna Marie Przybojewski. She places Henry at Walden and as he goes through his daily activities, each activity brings back a childhood memory that Henry recorded in his journal or that was recorded by a friend. Henry’s mother, Cynthia, told him many of these memories of his boyhood, and Henry treasured them often writing about this special time in his life. One page illustrates Henry when he lived at Walden Pond as a young man, and the opposite page illustrates Henry as a child. This permabound 8.5 x 11 book has 32 text pages with color illustrations.
This book "Henry David Thoreau: Bell Ringer for Justice" is for middle school children. Henry David Thoreau was a man of principle and integrity and was an advocate of social justice. He fought against slavery and injustice. His words still challenge us to live according to conscience and to act upon the principles of justice. He encourages us not to be complacent, but to become the change we want to see in the world.
Streamline Publishing, 2019. Paperback, 58 pp.
Books will be inscribed. Zoom session can be the author/illustrator coloring and talking with children about Thoreau. Also, the zoom session could be a discussion with an adult about the ways these books have been used in teaching Thoreau to junior high students and how the author (who is a junior high teacher) utilized them to improve critical thinking and writing skills to her 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The zoom session could also be a conversation of the author's journey in writing the children's books.
