Item Description

Bill Noble is a garden designer and garden preservation professional, and this book richly details his own personal garden in Norwich, VT.  Noble was the gardener at Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park in Cornish, NH, and led the early restoration efforts at The John Hay Estate at The Fells in Newbury, NH. As Director of Preservation for the Garden Conservancy, he was instrumental in the preservation and restoration of dozens of significant gardens throughout the United States.

In his acclaimed new book, Spirit of Place: The Making of a New England Garden (Timber Press, 2020), Noble writes about the pleasures and challenges -both aesthetic and practical - of creating his own garden in Norwich, Vermont. Deeply rooted to its place, the garden is included in the Smithsonian Institution's Archive of American Gardens and has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, House & Garden, The New York Times, Washington Post and the Garden Conservancy's Outstanding American Gardens.

Noble will present a talk on his book on June 10th through the Preservation Alliance's Expo On the Road series.
