Item Description

In honor of the 19th Amendment Centennial, Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) released its commemorative book, The Women Who Won the Vote, published by IWF Press and featuring a foreword by Ambassador Nikki R. Haley. The book, written by Charlotte Hays, tells the detailed stories of Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, and ten other suffragist women who led the courageous fight for the passage of the 19th Amendment.

In The Women Who Won the Vote, Ambassador Nikki R. Haley writes, “When the 19th Amendment was ratified, it marked the fulfillment of decades of hard work. In these pages, you’ll meet some of the amazing women who made that day possible. When many of them started down that road, success looked unlikely, if not impossible. But they didn’t give up. They pushed forward, and they changed history.”

Charlotte Hays, author of the book and director of cultural programs a IWF, said, “The women who fought for our right to vote came from a variety of backgrounds and held different beliefs, but worked together for a common cause. They were individuals who overcame tremendous challenges to advance equality for women. Their stories inspire us today.”

IWF, the leading women’s organization dedicated to advancing economic and personal liberty, recognizes the debt we owe to the early leaders of the women’s movement, who stood up for freedom and equal opportunities for women.

We have certainly come a long way.

The suffragists of 1919 would be proud to see the progress women have made during the past 100 years. With millions of women involved in local, state, and national politics, women are more politically active as voters, candidates, and advocates than ever before.
