Item Description
Private tour for up to 8 people of the Moffatt-Ladd House's remarkable 19th Century garden that features grass steps, bee hives (inactive), heirloom plants (includiing a rose planted in 1768), trellises and arbors. The Whipple Chestnut Tree, planted in 1776 by William Whipple, flourishes besides the House. Participants may receive a plant of their choice from the plant sale and a copy of Alexander Ladd's Garden Journal.
The Moffatt-Ladd House (1763) is a National Historic Landmark and on the National Register; it was the home of William Whipple, signer of the Declaration of Independence. It has been a house museum since the early 1900's. Located on Portsmouth's waterfront, it's within easy walking distance of Market Square, Strawbery Banke and Portsmouth's Discovery Center.
Combine with a meal at the Oar House (item 044) across the street from the Moffatt-Ladd and for a perfect day. Complete your trip to Portsmouth with a night at the Sailmaker's House (item 045)!
