Lameck Bonjisi was born in 1973. He is the brother of Witness Bonjisi and started sculpting full time at the age of 17. He worked as an assistant under the renowned sculptor, Nicholas Mukomberanwa before becoming a renowned sculptor in his own right.
Lameck has a great sense of line, inherited probably from Mukomberanwa, and his works are powerful and striking to the viewer. His careful use of the beautiful stones available to him is admirable and was one of Zimbabwe’s major sculptors.
Lameck was considered one of Zimbabwe’s most successful second-generation artist. He is the youngest sculptor represented in Atlantic International Airport Shona Exhibit. He had a unique and creative style.
Lameck died November 2004 at the age of 30
