More from Colleen:
"I remember knocking on my neighbor's doors as I walked home from elementary school in 2nd grade asking them if I could draw their portrait for .25 cents. Being an artist is something I never had to "grow up" first in order to do and since high school, no matter what I could do, I would immediately turn around and teach somebody else how to do it. So it's no surprise that I'm an art teacher. I taught eight years at Bay Colony Elementary in the Dickinson district and moved up to High School three years ago. It has been so much fun to see the kids I taught from age 5 to 9 grow into young adults and have them in class again. I demand very high quality work from my students and we have a great time creating it. They are so proud to suddenly discover they are actually good at this. I love to be able to steer them into art colleges and careers. The kids always tell me "Mrs. S, you're so weird!" I tell them "I know, but you'll always remember me!" I really do hope that each one of them remembers their time in art fondly and they put their knowledge to good use as they choose careers, decorate their homes or build things throughout their lives."
