Item Description

A one of a kind opportunity to learn one-on-one with a Native Hawaiian cultural practitioner, Olohe Umi Kai to make a mea kaua (traditional Hawaiian weapon) called a Pahoa Au (Marlin bill dagger). This will be a two (2) hour hands-on workshop and all materials and tools will be provided. 

The Pahoa Au was one of many weapons carried into battle by Hawaiian Warriors trained in the art of Lua.

Umi Kai makes and sells weapons and other Hawaiian implements through his company, Ulu Pono Designs.  He has over forty-five years of experience learning about and crafting na mea Hawaii, including na mea kaua.

Hawaiinuiakea is thankful for the opportunity to collaborate and feature Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners like Umi Kai.

Offer valid until 12/1/2022. Winning bidder will schedule workshop directly with the practitioner and contact info will be shared once the transaction is complete. For the safety of all involved the winner must be vaccinated and wear a mask during the workshop.
