Item Description
Liberty Blue Dinnerware was made by the Wedgwood Company in England as commissioned by an American bank, celebrating its 50th Anniversary along with the 1976 Bicentennial. This Staffordshire Ironstone collection featured 15 historic colonial scenes on the plates, cups, bowls etc. When the bank rewarded its customers with Liberty Blue for various promotions, the china became available to the public, mostly through supermarket promotions. Liberty Blue is still admired and widely collected today. It's interesting to note the English manufacture of china celebrating the indepence of a former colony.
The soup bowls were adorned with a scene of the Old North Church. This venerable church in Boston is famous as the site where Paul Revere instructed his comrades in the tower to signal the approach of the British on April 18, 1775--"One if by land, Two if by Sea." On the reverse of the bowls is printed "Liberty Blue. Orginal copper engravings of historic colonial scenes printed on Staffordshire Ironstone, Made in England".
The six bowls are in excellent pre-owned condition, with no chips or cracks. Measure 8 1/2" in diameter. Marked detergent and dishwasher safe.
