Item Description
The focus of my research is eco-feminism, a movement that combines feminist and ecological concerns. I explore this colossal theme through craft, natural dye, and painting.
Although my subject matter is specific and researched, I consider myself a process-based artist. Each work starts with an outline of a small idea, which grows and changes due to the multitude of choices I make while creatively problem-solving. Each piece's process has epic failures and simple breakthroughs. To me, this evolutionary process is the exciting part of making.
There is a tension between ephemeral and archival documentation, which I explore through site-specific natural dyes and repurposed fabric. I am inspired by Anni Albers and Sheila Hicks. Visual allusions to feminist makers develop uniquely in each artwork through pattern, material, or color theory. I hope my artwork will combine feminism, painting and craft sustainably and inclusively.
Medium: Cotton Fiber and Natural Dyes including Turmeric, Cochineal,
Goldenrod, and Indigo
